How to crochet the Acorn Stitch

The Acorn Stitch is built by alternating rows of single crochet and clusters of double crochet stitches, separated by chains.
The result is a compact yet soft pattern, slightly textured and visually balanced — perfect for both cotton and wool yarns.

Using a natural fiber and the right hook size, you’ll get a smooth, rhythmic texture that feels soft and looks beautifully regular.

Techniques and abbreviations

Ch = chain stitch
Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet

3-dc cluster= work 3 incomplete double crochets (leaving the last 2 loops of each on the hook), then yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook at once.

Tips for a perfect result

  • Keep your tension even: the clusters of double crochets should look compact but not stiff.

  • Block your work: a light steam blocking helps even out the stitches without flattening the texture.

  • Want a softer effect? Try an airy yarn like Alpa Cotton!
